Students Participate in Local Food Drive

Posted on: 1/8/2025

Students participated in a local food drive this past week, collecting hundreds of canned goods and non-perishable items to support families in need. The initiative was organized by the school’s Student Council in collaboration with a local food bank.

The school community came together this past week to participate in a local food drive, collecting much-needed supplies for families facing food insecurity. Organized by the Student Council in partnership with the Downtown Community Food Bank, the drive gathered hundreds of canned goods, non-perishable food items, and monetary donations.

Student Council President Maria Lopez shared her thoughts on the importance of the initiative. "We wanted to do something that would make a difference in people’s lives," she said. "Seeing the entire school come together to help others is incredibly inspiring."

Key Highlights of the Food Drive:

  • Donations Collected: Over 500 canned goods and non-perishable food items.
  • Participating Classes: All grade levels contributed to the effort.
  • Community Impact: Donations were delivered to the Downtown Community Food Bank, benefiting local families in need.

The food drive included friendly competitions between grade levels to see who could bring in the most donations. The winning class, the 6th-grade homeroom led by Mr. White, collected over 120 items and earned a pizza party for their efforts.

Parents and staff praised the students for their dedication to the cause. "It’s so important for young people to learn the value of giving back," said school counselor Mrs. Jenkins. "This experience taught them compassion and teamwork."

In addition to collecting food, students also volunteered their time to help sort and pack donations at the food bank. The organization expressed its gratitude for the support. "We’re incredibly thankful for the school’s involvement," said Sarah Johnson, the food bank’s director. "Their contributions will make a real difference for the families we serve."

The school hopes to make the food drive an annual event, continuing its tradition of community service and outreach.
